Yesterday's courtroom fireworks came after James Goodreau, the security chief, mentioned Enron during cross-examination. Mr. Wiedis then asked Mr. Goodreau if he was referring to the same company that defrauded investors and laid off many employees, resulting in prison sentences for some people implicated in the fraud at the energy trader, which collapsed into bankruptcy in late 2001. The judge pounded her gavel, yelling: "Mr. Wiedis!"
If the government actually has to try the facts of each individual corporate fraud case, it could get sticky.
