Boies left Cravath because he wanted to sue major league baseball and the other teams on behalf of George Steinbrenner and the Yankees. One of Cravaths clients was TimeWarner which owned the Braves. They objected and Boies resigned.

More recently Boies is representing an outfit called SCO which is suing IBM over the Linux operating system, even though Boies made his bones representing IBM in their Anti-trust case against the Federal Government in the 1980s.

I guess the next person who wants to hire Boies' firm as some sort of "independent" counsel will have to ask -- independent from whom?
