The maximum bet Bodog will take is $50, to guard against bettors who know the series outcome -- HBO insiders, perhaps? -- from cleaning up. The finale was filmed in March.
This is a different kind of information market from most of those we’ve seen because we really don’t want the answer – we already have it, and it will be widely known on Sunday (except by me! I’m in the countryside and don’t have cable). If this were a conventional information market we might want informed bets, at least up to a point. Note that the designers of this market are aware of the possibility of insider trading and have taken steps to address it, even without the SEC.
