After much deliberation during my recent break, I have decided to close comments on all posts. The reason is that the ratio of spam and off-topic rants to good stuff is, alas, declining to the point that it is hurting what I once thought was an important aspect of blogging. Also, it reflects my gradual move from a traditional blog to more of a website, with longer, more substantive, posts.
I believe this policy is consistent with and perhaps more straightforward than my prior policy of heavily moderated comments. It also is more conducive to thoughtful conversation between me and my readers than the comment format. (And note that my announced policy has long been that "I don't particularly like anonymous comments.")
So please send me emails at lribstei at gmail.com. I plan to discuss selected ones by updating the relevant posts, or possibly as subjects of whole new posts. Let me know in the email if you want to be identified.
This new policy applies to comments on yesterday's post, though I will treat those comments as emails under the new policy, with attribution depending on whether the commenter identified him/herself in the comment.
